Reclaimed History Meets Modern Precision
This project is for a long-standing client with a genuine appreciation for both historic and contemporary furniture. Their new kitchen combines sleek modern units with reclaimed church liturgical furnishings, carefully adapted and repurposed into bespoke kitchen cabinetry. The original proportions, shapes, and colours have been respected so the old and new sit naturally together, rather than compete.
One of the most challenging elements of the project is a large former wall unit from the church, now destined to sit in the centre of the room as a freestanding feature. While the front and one side retain original hand-carved details, the rear and remaining side were never intended to be seen and are completely plain.
Traditionally, recreating these historic carvings entirely by hand would be possible, but not cost-effective for the client. To overcome this, the piece has been carefully designed so that much of the work can be carried out using the Shaper Origin. This allows complex shapes and profiles to be accurately reproduced, while still leaving scope for hand-finishing to preserve the character and subtle imperfections of the original craftsmanship.
The result will be a statement piece that honours its history, functions beautifully in a modern kitchen, and demonstrates how traditional joinery and modern technology can work together to create something genuinely special.
